Shorts & Flip-Flops: May is here with Warmer Weather! Finally!

It has been a harsh winter for us all and winter crept into April.  May has finally brought in warm weather and I have finally exposed my legs and feet!  Shorts & flip-flops.....oh the joys of spring & summer.  The month of May came in with a bang for me.  My 58 year old sister Sandra Lynn "Sandy" passed away on May 2nd  and we had her memorial service on my birthday, May 5th.  It was an honor and blessing to celebrate her home coming on my birthday.  The last 7 days of her life were a struggle and I never prayed so hard that God would give her grace and mercy along with her family in those last days.  She was always more than a little stubborn and always pushed the envelope as far as she could.  Her journey through life had ups and downs as well as great joys.  It was not unusual that she would try to outwit & outlast death.  I will believe that heaven has a beautiful angel that no longer has any pain or suffer.  She would have loved Waccamaw River Tours.  She was never able to make it here in person.  She needed the peace and tranquility that Waccamaw  River Tours has naturally.   There is no better home than that of eternal life in heaven.  Yes, I do believe she made it there!  Thankful to family and friends that help Rick and I make it through this rough time especially helping Rick with the business. Rick and our friends were able to make it without me for a week. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and beyond. Special heart felt love to Rick, my daughter Ashley and sister Kelly who were my rocks of support.  They held me up when I was exhausted and stepped in to help where needed at just the right time.  Blessed!

May on the river has brought out the alligators, the osprey eggs are hatching, and the snakes are out sunning themselves.  A beautiful rainbow snake has been molting (shedding its skin) by the dock.  We have had baby flounder by the thousands in the cove.  They looked like moving leaves until you looked closer.  I found out from our friend and naturalist Jerry Walls that flounder are born in fresh water nurseries and will make their way to brackish and salt water as they mature.  We are a nature's flounder nursery, too! This place has such wonders to explore!

Hope you enjoy my photos of all these wonderful things!  Life is all around you.  You just have to look!

Yellow Belly Slider came to visit us on the property.  I think it is a female trying to lay some eggs.  Cute little face and beautiful markings.  Photo by Kim Carlson
